I can't comment on courses 'cause we all have our own opinions on what a course should offer. However sadly many clubhouses, especially the owner type are adopting the national bus companies attitude, which is reduce passengers then put the prices up. There is nothing worst than the club that puts the price of a pint up and even a cup of tea because their numbers are dropping. What happens, fewer golfers go into the clubhouse and yes you will get the carpark golfers. Golf clubs do have to make money but please stop and think how you can attract extra business, certainly not by extortionate prices!

I was playing the third hole on the Red at the Berkshire with old George Gale. It was at a time when all the clubs in my bag were a different make, different length, some were my dads clubs, some I had found some were in really bad condition needing re-gripping and new shafts. George was as deaf as a post well into his 70' s he was a real good old boy. Iwas just playing my 2nd shot with my three iron George ever more confident of ability walked on to the left as I struck the ball. The head flew off the three iron and twirled through the air straight at the back of George's head. George, George I shouted look out look out but Old George never switched on his hearing aid trying to save the battery for the 19th hole. There was a sickening thump and a dull clump as he fell to the floor ....................... ....I shall always have fond memories of poor old George

Recently our Club Captain was playing in his friendly fourball. At the 15th they left their four bags and motorised trolleys while they putted out before moving on to the 16th tee.

After they putted out they went to their bags where there were now only three trolleys.

They hunted high and lo for about 25 minutes before eventually finding the trolley with wheels wizzing round in the river about 100 yards away.

A trolley with its own mind .... oh well we have had a warm summer.

I very nearly gave myself a hernia last year on the 2nd hole at my course in East Anglia.

Those soft studs, the mats, I took a swing my legs just slipped away in different directions my playing mates were in hysterics but it was pretty painful the next day, I had fallen so hard that it was painful to sit. I sent a note to myself "must find somewhere warm next year.
